Dafna Maimon’s work constitutes an exploration of small-scale communities that challenge stereotypical constructions. Mainly cinematic and performative, her work focuses on understanding and studying the unclear limits of identity, the body and human emotional landscapes. The crew around a movie project, her closest family, a crowd of close friends in the art-world of a city or a Bonobo tribe are all possible groups she uses to research different modern traumas and conceptualizations of both pain and happiness. These communities are taken as an object of study, but simultaneously they form the structural elements of the projects with which she rehearses economic affect based systems and other paths of socialization.
Dafna Maimon (FI, 1982) is an artist based in Berlin. Maimon has shown her work in institutions and art spaces such as Kunst-Werke (Berlin), PS1 Moma (New York), Centre for Contemporary Arts Uzajdowski Castle (Warsaw), Lilith Performance Studio (Malmö), Based in Berlin, Crikoteka, Tadeusz Kantor Center (Krakau), HAU 2 (Berlin), Moscow Museum of Modern Art, W139 (Amsterdam), 1646 (The Hague), Project Native Informant (London) New Orleans Film Society with Deltaworkers (New Orleans) and Le Magasin (Grenoble).
